When investigating existing products, we decided to analyse music videos that have been produced by three well known artists; Blink 182, All Time Low and You Me At Six. All three of these artists fall into the same music genre as our chosen band, which is alternative pop/rock. All three videos both use and challenge the forms and conventions of music videos throughout, and also represent the band in a very positive light. An example of how they use the forms and conventions is that they create music videos that are said to be slightly quirky, normally showing the band to be messing around and having fun, and they challenge the conventions of music videos by almost always creating a video that does not directly relate with the lyrics of the song. By looking at these three videos, we have been able to come to certain decisions on things such as storyboards and mise-en-scene.

Before starting more specific, genre based research into our chosen product, we decided to do some reasearch on the history of music videos and music television.

Our Product
For our advanced production, we have decided to follow Brief 1; creating a promotional music video. We are also going to create a digipak for the album and a magazine advertisement for said album. We decided to complete this brief as music is something that we are both highly interested in, and we also have a lot of background knowledge when it comes to the conventions and styles of different music genres. We also decided to choose this brief as we both have experience in computer editing software, such as Photoshop, when it comes to both still imagery and film.
